Customer Profile

Sunnyvale Caravan Park is a family run holiday park in Rhyl, North Wales. Established over 40 years ago and set within a splendid beachside location, the park has direct access to the long sandy beaches along the North Wales coast. Sunnyvale is home to 270 static caravans and lodges along with 50 touring caravan pitches. Each year, Sunnyvale welcomes 1,000s of visitors. Goal

Three years ago Sunnyvale park owners recognised a need to modernise the site. A seven-year redevelopment plan was drawn up which included plans to completely refurbish and upgrade existing facilities.

Prior to the modernisation, Wi-Fi was not available across the park. Park management identified the need for a next generation, high performing Wi-Fi system, capable of providing a strong and reliable connection across the site.

Stack Interconnect – A PCM Company, were the chosen provider for this project. To achieve robust Wi-Fi coverage, a high bandwidth solution was installed across the park. An individual access point (AP) was fitted to each caravan and lodge, which were then connected by fibre-optic cabling to achieve super-fast speeds. The solution included the latest Ubiquiti AC high performance access points and a Security Gateway to authenticate users. The Access Points and Gateway are managed by the Stack Interconnect cloud based controllers.

Installation was completed during the winter months to avoid disruption during the peak holiday seasons.

Results, Benefits and Outcomes

Meeting Customer Expectations: At Sunnyvale, we understand that the expectations of our customers have changed. Whether staying in touch with friends & family, browsing the web, catching up with work or enjoying Netflix, our guests need a reliable Wi-Fi connection – it is no longer an optional extra.

Often, their experience at other holiday sites has been poor, as signal and connections can be patchy. Sunnyvale guests now benefit from high speed internet access from anywhere across the entire site. We have sold caravans and lodges on the basis that there is reliable Wi-Fi provision and some of our regular guests comment that they have a better connection at Sunnyvale than they do at home!

Increasing Profits and Returning on Investment: Sunnyvale provides a free but limited data package to our caravan and lodge owners. In addition to this we also offer an enhanced service, whereby customers pay to increase their data usage and add more devices to their plan. Visitors who rent our caravans or lodges, or use a touring pitch, can also purchase Wi-Fi access via our voucher system. Because the system is so reliable, people are happy to pay for the service. This has created a new revenue stream for our business and we have seen a great return on our investment as the entire system has been paid for.

Increasing our Visitor Numbers: We have also seen an increase in footfall at our restaurant and bar. These facilities are open to visitors outside of the park – you do not have to be a guest or resident to pay Sunnyvale a visit! Our reputation for having a reliable Wi-Fi connection within our bar and restaurant means that we attract more visitors. We have seen a huge spike in visitor numbers to our bar and restaurant since the solution was installed.

Challenging the Competition: At Sunnyvale, we really appreciate our customers and we are delighted that they choose to spend their holiday with us. Competition between other holiday parks can be intense, but thanks to our Wi-Fi system, installed by Stack Interconnect, we are streets ahead of other parks in terms of the service we provide. Even when compared to bigger parks, with bigger budgets, we are streets ahead of the competition, which is just fantastic!
